How Boise State will never reach the BCS game

Poor Boise State. They have the talent, the drive, the underdog status, creativity to do the impossible and the blue turf. But they will never reach the BCS championship game. See, Boise State does not play for a BCS automatic qualifying conference. They play in the Mountain West Conference which does not get an automatic bid to a BCS game. In the world of the BCS, 6 conference champions get guaranteed spots in the BCS games, along with 2 wild cards. In order for Boise State to qualify, they have to go undefeated, win going away and hope that some of the other wild card candidates slip up. Then they only get to go to one of the BCS games, not the championship.

Boise State not only has to go undefeated and win going away, they must beat a few BCS teams along the way. Their conference does not offer the kinds of challenges that Boise needs to prove itself. Because of this, people will not vote them high in the rankings unless they beat a few good teams in the BCS conferences. There is just one problem.... no one wants to play them. Boise State has come out and said, they will play anyone, anywhere, anytime. They will come to your neck of the woods and play you. They don't require you to come to the blue turf. Boise just wants to play good football. But who wants to play them? Oklahoma, Florida State, USC, Ohio State, Texas, Alabama or Florida...Nope. No one wants to stand up and say that they aren't scared. They don't have the back bone that Boise has. They don't want their season record to have the loss on it. So Boise must play the second level BCS conference teams that want to show they belong with their big brothers. Beating these teams doesn't help Boise's case. Beating them is just another day at the office for the big boys like Alabama and Ohio State. This only proves that Boise can beat the same lowly teams, not that they are just as good.

Poor Boise State. How much longer do they have to beg to belong? If they could only get their shot to prove themselves.
